Janis Wakefield ITEC dip CThA
My entire professional life has been dedicated to caring for people of all ages from new babies to the elderly.
For the last fourteen years I have worked for Shooting star Chase Children’s Hospice as part of the hospice at home team. After I qualified as a Reflexologist in 2011 I soon realised the huge benefits from the simple sensation of touch and how this helped parents and carers with things like stress. I recently left Shooting Star Chase and have now gone into private practice and am able to offer the following treatments:
- Hydrotherm Massage
- Teaching of Baby & Toddler Reflex
- Hopi Ear Candling
Reflexology is a totally natural and non-invasive therapy which treats the whole body rather than just the symptoms and may restore balance; strengthening the body and calming the mind. From personal experience I have found that stress and environmental factors put enormous pressure on the human body but Reflexology may bring about internal balance and promote self-healing.
Hydrotherm Massage is a full body massage carried out on warm water filled pillows, the whole massage is carried out with the client laying on their back and you do not have to turn over half way through. This kind of massage is especially beneficial for anyone who has problems laying on their front, including pregnant women, those with breathing problems or anyone who just does not feel comfortable laying on their front.
Teaching of Baby & Toddler Reflex
Reflexology for babies and toddlers was created to assist parents with the well-being of their child/children and to strengthen the loving bond. This is done on the child’s hands with the help of nursery rhymes. It aims to help boost the immune system, ease colic, wind, reflux, constipation, tummy pains and ear congestion. Gentle calming for your baby, allowing you to cope with your babies needs 24 hours a day. This is best done in the family home with up to four family members (mum, dad, grandparents etc) or four friends who also have small children of their own.
Hopi Ear Candling
Hopi Ear Candling is the practice of blowing smoke into people's ears for healing purposes. Mexico, India, Ancient Greece and Japan all have traditions of blowing smoke into people's ears but the earliest recorded use is by the Hopi Indians in south western USA - hence the common term "Hopi Ear candles". The Hopi Indians saw a spiritual side to the practice of ear candling as well as the physical one and this is reflected in some of today’s brochures.
Ear candles are widely used by GPs in Germany and the US for ENT problems as an alternative to antibiotics, syringing and grommets. It may also help conditions such as excessive ear wax, tinnitus, vertigo, labyrinthitis, headaches, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, snoring and much more.
I am a fully qualified and insured practitioner in Reflexology, and qualified to teach parents/carers to do reflexology on their children. I am certified to do Hopi Ear candling and Hydrotherm Massage.
I have an ITEC diploma in Reflexology, Anatomy and Physiology and am a member of the Complementary Therapist Association (CThA).
